CarolAnn Wachter studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
She has exhibited through out the U.S. and France and has actively taught painting over the past 15 years in New York, Connecticut and now Colorado. Her style of painting has been influenced by abstract expressionism and compared to DeKooning and Pollock. The New York Times described it as possessing a “distinct sense of fragility ...abets the sense of emergency... It's an unsettling synthesis...” Not only influenced by abstract expressionism Ms. Wachter sees art and design as closely linked. She has crossed over at times from fine art into design, viewing fabric as just another medium to create with. Influenced by the Weiner Werkstatte of 1920’s Vienna and the geometry of Madeleine Vionnet’s dresses, Wachter has produced unique geometric fabric designs as well as a line of sculptural hats and clothing. Her art is the constant dialogue between inherent patterns and their emergence into new form -- “the appurtenance of Beauty is Ritual Design.”
